Ways to Practice Letter and Sound Identification With Your Kindergartener
- Say the alphabet slowly so you can clearly say and hear each letter
- Make ABC flashcards and point to each letter as you say each letter aloud
- Start with learning letters in your name
- Write your name and identify letters
- Write your name, cut each letter, and build your name back in the correct letter order
- Find and circle letters in a book, magazine or newspaper
- Write letters in shaving cream, salt or sand
- Use magnetic letters to explore and say letters
- Use 'Play-Doh', pencils, sticks, straws, etc. to form actual letters
- Play letter I Spy
- Line up your toys and write the first letter of each toy
- Use sidewalk chalk, markers or crayons to write letters in different colors
- If you have internet access, watch ABC videos on YouTube
- Using your finger, write a letter on someone's back and have them guess the letter
- Hide letters throughout the house and go on a letter hunt
- Go on a letter hunt using a flashlight at night
- Match upper and lowercase letters
