During the 2018-2019 school year, Longfellow Elementary 4th and 5th grade students read 29,112,559 Words in the Million Words Challenge! It was an amazing year, with many students discovering new genres, topics, and authors to read.
Interested 4th and 5th graders this year have each received their own log sheets to track their progress as they read towards a million!
Students will read any book they choose, log the book, find and record the word count of the book, and answer a few short questions to demonstrate understanding of what they read.
EVERY WORD COUNTS!!
Prizes are awarded for goal levels over 100,000 words (at 100,000, 250,000, 500,000, 750,000 and 1 millions words read, students will receive prizes.
Students who reach the 1 million mark will be treated to a formal luncheon at the end of the school year!
