The media centers of Marion CUSD #2 (including our very own Longfellow Library!) were awarded a Library Services & Technology Act grant by the Illinois State Library. The grant project, STEM + Reading Initiatives = Future Ready Readers, will help students read critically, for enjoyment, and to become lifelong readers.
To support the addition of Makerspaces, STEM groups, and Robotics teams in the libraries and schools, both fiction and non-fiction titles have been purchased on STEM based topics.
Multiple reading initiative programs such as: Million Words Challenge, Lincoln Award, Monarch Award and Illinois Reads, are being promoted at the libraries. Newly released fiction works and graphic novels have been purchased in support of these programs.
This wide variety of new titles will be used by CUSD #2 patrons for reading enjoyment and accessing information. In turn, this will help to increase student success both inside and outside of the classroom.
All of this is made possible through the Illinois State Library. You can read more about the Illinois State Library here.
