Emergency School Closing Information


Weather conditions or other emergency situations sometimes cause disruption of regular school schedules. When this happens Community Unit No. 2 Schools will try to follow the procedures given below.

Notices of school closings or other changes in time schedules will be made by school administrators as soon as possible according to prevailing weather conditions and weather forecasts. Some students attending co-operative programs in Marion are from all parts of Williamson County and from other counties, therefore, many things have to be taken into consideration when changes are made.

SCHOOL WILL BE IN SESSION AS SCHEDULED UNLESS ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE MADE TO CLOSE SCHOOL. These announcements will be made daily as soon as the necessary information is available, and this will usually be by 6:00 a.m. If conditions are such that announcements about closing can be made the night before, area news media will be called. Sometimes conditions might cause school to be delayed in starting time. These announcements will be made in the same manner. Announcements will be made via our School Messenger notification system, as well as radio, television, and via the district website.

Sometimes weather conditions worsen during the day and it is necessary to consider dismissing school early. This is a difficult decision to make due to the problems caused by many younger children getting home before parents or by persons not being there to care for them, and due to staggered bus schedules. Consequently, if school is dismissed early, announcements will be made by noon if at all possible. Parents are urged to make advance arrangements to care for their children if they arrive home earlier than normal dismissal time.

PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE RADIO OR TV STATIONS, SCHOOL OFFICES OR SCHOOL OFFICIALS. THE SAFETY OF OUR STUDENTS WILL ALWAYS BE THE PRIMARY CONSIDERATION USED TO MAKE THIS DETERMINATION

Persons authorized to make announcements for Unit NO.2 will be Dr. Keith Oates, Superintendent and Amy Sanders, Assistant Superintendent.
