Q |
How long may keep a book when I check it out? |
 |
A |
You may have the book for two weeks, unless it is before CHRISTMAS, SPRING, or SUMMER break. I must get all books back before the long breaks, because of a few different reasons: 1. inventory, 2. book loss prevention, 3. moving and changing library sections |

Q |
What is restriction? |
 |
A |
Restriction is when you are only allowed to check out books with my permission. You get restricted for different reasons. Usually restriction happen when books are damaged on purpose, lost, returned excessively late, and/or your parents ask for restriction, but other reasons do pop up. Restrictions usually last your entire time at MJHS. This is not used as a punishment by me, but as a way to help with responsibility issues. I don't want you to have to pay for books or fines, so I help you remember to turn your books in by having to come to me for permission. |

Q |
If my class doesn't come to the library on our library day, when is my book due? |
 |
A |
If your class doesn't make it to the library on your usual day, then your book is STILL due on the date stamped inside the cover. It is your RESPONSIBILITY to come drop off the book at the library whether your class comes or not.
If you see me, Mrs. Pierce, in the halls, then I will gladly take your book and check it in for you. Just make sure you get the book back when it is due. |

Q |
What happens if I lose or damage a book? |
 |
A |
If you lose or damage a book, then you must pay for the lost or damaged book. It is just like losing or damaging a movie you rented; you must pay for it! You will not be able to check out any more materials from the library until the book is paid for.*** (see next question)
I might work out payment plans or other ways of payment if there are certain financial concerns. Just speak to me about the issue, and we will come up with something. |

Q |
Library fines? |
 |
A |
Yes, we do have fines.
1. $.05 per book per day (EXAMPLE: If you have two books out, and they are one day late, you owe $.10.)
2. All fines must be paid if you want to check out a book. Under certain circumstances, I will override a fine block.
3. Lost Book/Damaged Book Fines--The fines are the total replacement price of the book lost/damaged.
4. If a lost book is returned, then you will be refunded the total fine amount paid.
5. At least once a month, book fine slips will be sent to advisory classes.
6. Unpaid fines will stay in the system for your entire career at MJHS.
7. If you are out sick, then the book is due back on your FIRST day back to school. I will remove all fines if the book is returned on the FIRST day back. If it is not returned on the FIRST day back, you will be responsible for the total amount of fines from the original due date.
***For certain rare issues, I will expunge fines, but you must speak with me, Mrs. Pierce, about the situation. |

Q |
Do I bring you my damaged book? |
 |
A |
Yes, please bring in your damaged library book. If I can fix it, you might not have to pay for the book. If you damage a book so badly that I cannot fix it, you must pay the replacement price of the book. Remember to be careful with your books! You break it; you buy it!
If the book is damaged in an unsanitary way, (fecal matter, vomit, etc.,) PLEASE DO NOT BRING THE BOOK BACK TO THE LIBRARY! This is gross, and is a BIO-HAZARD!!
***If your book is damaged in a house flood, house fire, or other extenuating circumstance, see me. I will work with you on the situation. |
